Top Five traits that an entrepreneur must have to succeed

By: Heena Sharma

Entrepreneurship is the horse, and innovation is the cart, they say! What are the personality characteristics and behaviours that lead to venture creation and success? Can one learn to be an entrepreneur, or is it a quality a person is born with?
While the mythical “entrepreneurial spirit” that infects certain individuals and not others is a prized possession, the grim reality is it takes a lot more than a drive to create some from nothing to actually lead a new business to succeed. There is no “ideal” entrepreneurial personality – successful entrepreneurs can be analytical or intuitive, risk-averse or thrill seeking.

Having a vision – Dreaming Big
Successful entrepreneurs have the ability to envision a new reality and the will to bring it to fruition. While they may not have a crystal clear crystal ball, successful entrepreneurs can anticipate market changes and trends just around the bend. No, it isn’t a magic power — it is simply the result of keeping a close watch on competitors, the industry and general business trends. They have crazy big dreams, even though to some these dreams may not be realistic or practical. But it is the big dreamers who really succeed. They look for answers and solutions and aren’t daunted by challenges.

Sell, sell , sell
Successful entrepreneurs are true salespeople. Whether selling their idea to an investor, negotiating with a bank for a loan, talking to a supplier, or directly selling to the customer, entrepreneurs know how to sell. Successful entrepreneurs want to see what the view is like at the top of the business mountain. Once they see it, they want to go further. They know how to talk to their employees, and their businesses soar as a result. The business is bound to fail if the entrepreneur does not know how to sell.

Independent and Open Minded
Entrepreneurs love to be in charge and be their own boss. They carve their own path, relying on their own talents, instincts, and skills. They realize that every event and situation is a business opportunity. Ideas are constantly being generated about workflows and efficiency, people skills and potential new businesses. They have the ability to look at everything around them and focus it toward their goals.

Passionate and result driven
Passion is the most important trait of the successful entrepreneur. They genuinely love their work and  are willing to put in those extra hours to make the business succeed .The successful entrepreneur will always be reading and researching ways to make the business better. They want their actions to have a direct impact on results. They also have the ability to conceptualize the whole of a business; not just its individual parts, but as a sum total.

Risk takers

An entrepreneur is a visionary, a risk taker, a dreamer, a motivator, and a problem solver Contrary to common wisdom, entrepreneurs are not risk addicts. Instead, they take reasonable risks. He will set himself up to succeed, put the pieces in place to make it happen, take his entire team with him, and learn from his failures so that he can keep going and keep getting better. While taking risks is part of the entrepreneurship process, those who succeed weigh the options, see what else is out there, and careful about the types of risks they are willing to take for themselves and those that might rely on them.
