Up Close and Personal


The Small Enterprise Business Award was organized in the month of February, awarding SMEs and Start-Ups for their excellent performances in the year of 2016 in different domains like manufacturing, service, technology etc. One such organization was “Silab Tech” which received the SME of the Year 2016 award, for its efficiency and prowess.

We had the opportunity to speak to the winners and understand their strategies on how they outperformed others to get to this position. Following are excerpts from the conversation.  

When and by whom the company was founded?
» SilabTech was founded in the month ofMay-2012 by 4 senior analog designers who used to work together at Texas Instruments design center in Bangalore earlier.

What was the idea behind Silab Tech and what is the company’s mission?
» The company was established with a mission to design very Low Power interface solutions for advance silicon chips. The most used interface is USB, however, there are many more interfaces that are standardized for other applications and SilabTech provides solutions for them as well.

What has been the key strategies used by the brand to stand out in the market?

The key strategies:

» Emphasize on the technical skills of the team to deal and solve complex problems.
» Target customers that need unique and customize solution.
» Present the advantages of SiliabTech solutions mainly in providing Low Power solutions (which is very important factor in chip design).


What has been the defining moment for the brand which led the path forward?
» Tthese are the moments when SilabTech projects met creditable and global customers – usually this comes after months of technical discussion and long due diligence by the customer, only then the project award had happened.

How many employees are currently working and what does the organization do for its employees?
» SilabTech has 40 employees on board, most of them are Electrical Engineers with expertise in Analog and Digital circuit design.
The company invests in training the Engineers to the specific field of Interfaces and keep them engaged by continues work on edge technology.

How does the brand cope up with challenges?
» We had branded the company as "The High Speed SERDES IP Company" with a view that our brand should reflect our focus and our differentiation from other vendors.

What is the plan for the coming years?
» SilabTech is continuously looking in the new high speed standards defined in the industry like 25 and 56 Gbps Interfaces for Optical Networking and High Performance Computing.

What is the one tip it would like to give to other SMEs in the industry?
» In order for an SME to be successful in this field we recommend to look on how to build expertise in a specific field that can enable access to substantial market for the company to target.
